Carmody Groarke has won planning permission for its £13.3 million, competition-winning proposals to redevelop Windermere Steamboat Museum. The ‘unanimous’ approval on Wednesday (June 5) came just days after South Lakeland District Council also agreed to hand the museum a £200,000 grant to help ‘unlock further funding’. Described as a ‘cluster of buildings’, the project will house a collection of more than 40 boats with ‘national and international significance’ including the oldest mechanically powered boat in the world (the SL Dolly, built in 1850).
