Construction

  • The latest Glenigan Index shows a 6% decline in the underlying value of project starts over the three months to May, compared to the same period of 2011. 

UK Economy

  • The price of a typical UK house rose by 0.3% in May, according to the Nationwide House Price Index. The average price of £166,022 is 0.7% lower than one year ago.
  • The April data from Land Registry's House Price Index shows an annual price decrease of 1.0% in England and Wales. The region in England and Wales which experienced the highest increase in its average property value over the last 12 months is London with a movement of 5.1%.  Yorkshire & the Humber experienced the greatest annual price fall with a decrease of 5.6%. 
  • According to the Bank of England, the value of net lending to businesses in the UK fell by 5.3% over the last three months compared to a year ago.
