Glenigan's weekly roundup of keys statistics for the UK construction industry and the wider economy:

Construction

  • The total volume of construction output in the first quarter of 2012 fell by 3.7% compared with the same period a year ago, according to the ONS. 

UK Economy

  • The ONS reported the seasonally adjusted Index of Production fell by 2.6% in March 2012 compared with March 2011.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates of international visits to the UK grew 1% versus the previous three months, and earnings from visits to the UK fell 3%.
  • In the year to April 2012 the output price index for home sales of manufactured products rose 3.3%, compared with a rise of 3.7 per cent last month.
  • UK retail sales values were down 3.3% on a like-for-like basis from April 2011, according to the British Retail Consortium. On a total basis, sales were down 1.0% on a year ago.
